HOME MISSION. The churches of Central Baptist Association have given £230,474 to Home Mission for the year up to the end of October. Thank you for your continued giving. By comparison the same period in 2104 the giving was £243,388. Nationally the total for the period is down from £2,885,230 to £2,746,388. The projection is for the national total to be £3.86 million against a projected budget of £4.12 million. The shortfall will impact on the Union and also the Association. All donations, including additional ones, are received with gratitude and thanks to God.

Please remember to let Colin Pye have any feedback on the Home Mission leaflet that was circulated to churches a few weeks ago.

JPIT RESOUCE (Joint public Issues Team) ENOUGH CAMPAIGN: In the UK, children raised in families without enough money face many disadvantages. They are more likely to die as infants, do worse at school, experience more disease and illness, and go on to die younger.  The Welfare Reform and Work Bill currently before Parliament will make poor people poorer. The majority of those affected will be children. A large group of Churches is asking the government to reconsider its proposals. You are invited to find out more and to join with them. www.jointpublicissues.org.uk/enough-resources/

40 DAYS OF DARING GREATLY.  April 10th to May 15th 2016.  ‘Next year we in the CBA will be joining in with a National initiative from the 10th April for 40 days leading up to Pentecost. We are calling it ‘40 Days of Daring Greatly‘ with the aim of encouraging churches to consider doing something with a mission heart that is out of their safe zone. We all know how easy it is to get overly comfortable within our faith communities and imperceptibly disengage from the culture in which God has placed us. I am challenged when I see the courage of Younger People (such as in HOPE MK) impacting their communities in the name of Christ, and deep down wishing I had a little bit more of their umph. Of course many of our churches are already doing great things, but sometimes it is helpful just to have that gentle nudge from the wider Christian community. We will in due course be offering suggestions as to what this might look like on the ground, but just for now please note this in your diaries and start considering ways in which you & your church could engage intentionally with 40 Days of Daring Greatly’ Colin Pye.  See following: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B19iZajJSOVfSmRaT3YxNzlacjA/view?usp=sharing

GIFT AID News from Association of Christian Accountants & Treasurers.

Dear ACAT Member

We would not normally communicate with you again so quickly after our last email, however we have just received information that HMRC has released a new simplified Gift Aid Declaration.  This has particular implications for churches holding stocks of paper Gift Aid forms and envelopes.

The new model declaration has now been published on gov.uk. Links to the model declaration and enduring model declaration can be found at https://www.gov.uk/guidance/gift-aid-declarations-claiming-tax-back-on-donations

The new declaration will apply to all new donations. Declarations that are already in place do not need to be updated.

HMRC recommends that all charities, including churches, use the wording of the HMRC-approved model declaration. However, charities remain free to adapt the model declaration, for example to include their own branding or additional messages.

Please note that Churches holding stocks of printed materials using the previous model declaration may only continue to use these until 5 April 2016.  From 6 April 2016, the new declaration must be used. Incorrect declarations may result in Gift Aid claims being invalid.

We have put links to samples of the new Declarations on our News page at: http://acat.uk.com/news.html

BAPTIST HISTORY.  Are you interested in our Baptist heritage? The Baptist Historical Society and the Centre for Baptist History and Heritage are co-sponsoring a day on Eighteen Century Baptists in England on November 28th at Regent’s Park College, Oxford. If you are interested to find out more, please contact Stephen Copson.

CONSULTATION ON DEVOLVING SUNDAY TRADING RULES.  If you haven’t yet contacted your MP about the proposal to extend the opportunities for shops to open on Sundays, please do so. The voting in Parliament could be close. There is an online ‘email your MP’ tool on the Keep Sunday Special website – and individuals and churches are encouraged to send emails, write letters (which are more likely to be seen by MPs) and book surgery appointments. Because there has been no announcement regarding which bill will contain the legislation, the online template email generally opposes Sunday deregulation. However, the email is editable so do personalise it. JPIT has made a response on behalf of Baptist, Methodist and United Reformed Churches which you can see here .We also blogged about the issue. From Joint Public Issues Team (involving Baptist Union, the Methodist Church and the United Reformed Church)
